The mom you talk with over a cup of tea – gossiping, bickering, and everything in between. The grandmother who will not stop bragging about her mamalehs (granddaughters). The wife who loved and cherished her husband for over 50 years. The daughter who cared for her mother in her old age. A beloved sister, favorite aunt, cherished cousin, and dear friend. The person you would call when you needed an ear.
Judy left this world to join her husband, Tony, and her parents, Rae and David. She suffered a massive stroke the week before and, although her mind and spirit remained strong, her body could not fight any longer.
She was a proud Jewish woman from Queens, New York (and graduate of Queens College) with all of the attitude and accent that goes with her home town. Judy leaves behind the three greatest lights in her life - her daughter Dana and her granddaughters Janie Rebecca and Tessa Rae (and she didn’t mind her son-in-law Dan either). She also precedes her loving sister, Hermine (Benjamin) Fisher and brother, Howard (Ethel) Friedman and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service for Judith will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 10:30 AM to 10:45 AM at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. Dana will be sitting shiva at the family residence through Wednesday, September 13. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greenspring Village Inc. Scholars’ Fund (elm.convio.net/greenspringSCH), a charity close to her heart, or another charity that you believe would honor her memory, would be greatly appreciated.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.demainefunerals.com for the Russo family.
