Karl Christian Mohay was born 6/17/1953 in Springfield, IL to John G. Mohay and Gwendolyn B. (Chambers) Mohay both of Springfield, IL. He was the 4th of seven children. He was very active in baseball from an early age. He played shortstop and had one of the quickest catch and releases of his time. It was rare for a ball to get past him. He went to the All Stars playing with a broken finger and was four games short of playing in the World Series. He played the trumpet for a short period of time and wasn’t too bad at it.
Every picture you see of Karl he is smiling; he was a happy go lucky kid and adult. Karl enjoyed photography, camping and the wilderness and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed watching westerns and walking his dogs. He was a graduate of George C Marshall High School (Vienna, VA) in 1972. Karl attended 2 years at Oklahoma City University before leaving to join the Marine Corp. where he spent a good period cruising the Mediterranean and majored in Communications. Upon leaving the Marine Corp he worked for C&P where he met a tall, beautiful brunette who became the love of his life, Wendy J. (Carrigan) Scott. They married on May 30, 1982. Together they raised two children, Kyle Christian and Brittany Paige who they adored. At the time of his death, Karl worked for Systems Integration, Inc. The past three years the highlight of his life was visiting with, playing on the floor and holding his beautiful grandchildren.
Mr. Mohay is survived by his wife, Wendy Mohay and children, Kyle Mohay, Brittany Mohay Nadir and son-in-law Shay Nadir and his 3 grandchildren: Sofia, Najaf and Daniyal Nadir, his brothers, John, Mark, Kurt, Matt and two sisters, Nina and Therese, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and sister-in-law Barbara Mohay. Sadly, the day after Karl’s passing, he lost his brother-in-law Lester Carrigan and soon thereafter, his brother-in-law Tom McGarry and his beloved mother, Gwendolyn Mohay.
His family brought him smiles, laughs and so much happiness. His biggest joy and entertainment was playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his in-laws, the Nadir family and watching his local sports teams play on TV. He was lucky enough to see his Washington Capitals Hockey Team win the Stanley Cup and the Washington Nationals Baseball Team win the World Series.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Raymond of Penafort Roman Catholic Church, 8750 Pohick Rd, Springfield, VA on August 14, 2020 at 10:30am. Mr. Mohay will be laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA at 1:30pm. 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
