Katheryn Hurtick Mayes

Kathy was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Nuel and Vieva Hurtick on May 6, 1941. She went to Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, and graduated from Lynchburg College. She married James H Mayes, Jr. on August 19, 1967 in Washington, DC. She worked at Aerojet-General Corporation for several years post college. After marrying and having kids, Kathy stayed home until she and Jim bought Colorcraft of Virginia, where they worked until retirement. Kathy was a part of Community Bible Study, a member of Palmyra United Methodist Church as well as Scottsville Baptist Church.

Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Mayes.

She is survived by daughter’s Michelle Mayes Clapham, her husband Shane Clapham and Meredith Mayes Carlton and her husband Kevin Carlton. Her Granddaughters Chaney Clapham, Chloe Clapham and Cassidy Clapham. Her brother in law Alex Mayes and Sister in law Teresea Renner. In addition, her close friend Andy Anderson.

Viewing hours will be held at Demaine Funeral Home 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA 22151, on Sunday, January 14, from 4:00-6:00 pm.

The funeral will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal church, 6320 Hanover Ave, Springfield, VA 22150 on Monday, January 15th at 10:00. Burial will follow at Monticello Gardens in Charlottesville, VA.
