Mrs. Kathleen Templeman, age 97, passed away on September 2, 2024, in Springfield, VA. She was born in Southport, England on October 15, 1926, to parents Edward George McCandlish and Mary Dixon McCandlish.
Kathleen lived a long, interesting life and retained her strong will and character throughout all her years. She met Mr. Edward Blake Templeman, while he was serving the Army Air Corps as a photographer in England. The two married in 1945. Like many other War-Brides at the time, Kathleen came to the U.S. on the RMS Queen Mary. Kathleen and Edward had two children together; Edward B. Templeman, Jr., born 1950, and James N. Templeman, born 1955.
In 1963, the family moved from their residence in S.W. Washington D.C., to Springfield, Virginia. During the 1960s and 1970s, Kathleen spent her time teaching knitting and crochet classes part-time at the Sears in Landmark Center. She later went on to introducing people to microwave cooking, and cam sewing machines.
Although her youngest son was born without arms, with the tremendous support he received from his parents, he went on to receive a D.Sc. from GWU and led a R&D section at NRL.
Both Kathleen and her husband Ed were members of the Northern Virginia Photographic Society.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edward Blake Templeman. She leaves behind her loving sons, Edward Jr of Virginia Beach, VA and Jim of Springfield, VA; two grandchildren, Edward of Potomac, MD, and Gordon of Pully, Switzerland; and five great-grandchildren, Ella, Brady, Nolan, Noah and Charlotte; sister, Edna Forshaw; and sister-in-law, Diane McCandlish.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Demaine Funeral Home Springfield at 1:00PM.
