Kathryn Ann Hix

Kathryn Ann Hix (63) of Springfield ,VA died on March 5. She is survived by her loving husband, James H. Hix Jr, her three children, Jennifer Hix, James Hix III, and Karen Mentz, her siblings, Mary Jo Britt and Thomas Pankowski, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Hix, as she was known to her students, touched many lives during her 40 year teaching career. She retired from St. Michael School in Annandale, VA after teaching there for over two decades, mostly in the third grade. Prior to that, she taught in other schools around Northern Virginia.

Kathy, as she was known to friends, was always ready to help anyone in need. She was very active at St. Michael Church and spent many hours working behind the scenes, especially making rosaries and preparing altar linens. Sick relatives and neighbors could always count on her to lend a hand.

Kathryn was born to Bernard and Beverly Pankowski in Germany in 1948. The army transferred the family often throughout Kathryn’s childhood. She spent two years in Hawaii during elementary school, but was back in Alexandria VA for high school, where she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1966.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 4-8pm at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 14 , 2012 at 12:00pm at St. Michael Church in Annandale. Internment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery in Prince William County, VA.
