Leo was the second child of six born to William and Carol Pfeiffer of New York. Their father's Army career led to many moves, with the family living in New York, Texas, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia, Japan, and Iran. Leo attended many different schools making many fond memories. He particularly loved his high school time in Tehran where he played in two rock bands and made lifelong international friends.
Leo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Old Dominion University, graduating in 1981. Combining his love for art and music, Leo worked in the Art Department for Tracks Records in Norfolk, VA and then Tower Records in Washington DC. Over the last 22 years, Leo shared his love of art working in the Art Bank Program at the State Department in Washington DC. He was often told, and he agreed, that he had the best job imaginable.
Leo continued to make art throughout his life, especially enjoying painting and printmaking. His home became a gallery for his artwork, as did the homes of family and friends. Leo also pursued his passion for music, enjoying his vast eclectic collection of recorded music and attending concerts regularly. He often made themed mixed tapes and CD's to share with friends and family. Leo played his guitar daily and shared that love of music with his son, William.
In the words of Vincent Van Gogh, "The way to know life is to love many things." Leo certainly approached life this way. He had a generous, kind spirit, but also possessed a playful, quick wit and wry sense of humor. Leo really enjoyed cooking and was especially known for his homemade pizza. He loved the outdoors, from working in his own yard to visiting the beach, hiking in the mountains and stargazing with his telescope. Leo also loved time at the neighborhood pool, reading, crossword puzzles, travel and family card games.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Linda, their son, William and his devoted mother, Carol along with siblings, William (Kathy) Pfeiffer, Larry (Gail) Pfeiffer, Janine (Joseph) Phaneuf, Suzanne (Ivan Kulis) Pfeiffer, Michael (Jennifer) Pfeiffer, many nephews and nieces and two great nieces. He was predeceased by his father, William J. Pfeiffer.
