

Of Springfield, on March 10, at the age of 85. Beloved mother of Steve (Lynn) Ruiz and Susan (Donald Evans) Ruiz-Evans; grandmother of Stuart (Rebecca) and Lydia; sister of Edith Schmidbauer; and aunt of Werner and Peter. Ex-wife of John Ruiz (deceased).
Daughter of Friedrich and Mathilde Hauser. Was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She married John Ruiz, an American Soldier and became a US citizen in the early 1950’s. Some of her greatest memories were of the early years of her marriage and her time in New Mexico, Hawaii and Spain. The family settled in Pimmit Hills in Falls Church, VA where she lived for nearly 50 years.
Above all, Lilo was dedicated to her family. She consistently put others’ needs above her own. Her greatest enjoyment was when the family was brought together, relishing in spending holidays together and serving German delicacies including rouladin at family meals.
In addition to family, her passions were being of service to others, gardening, cooking, reading, swimming and walking. She was dedicated to her friends and would help in any way she could.
Lilo was a longtime member and volunteer of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Falls Church. She enjoyed growing vegetables, herbs and flowers. She was an excellent cook and used what she grew. She loved walking from an early age and continued to do so throughout her life.
Friends welcome on Friday, April 1 from 3-6 pm at Historic Stone Mansion, 3900 Stoneybrooke Drive, Alexandria Virginia, 22306. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s research, Arc of Northern Virginia, the food bank of your choice, or the Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden.
