Linda was a school teacher, coach, gymnastics instructor, above-par golfer, traveler, big sister, fun aunt, a wonderful wife, and a great mother. She could bake a tasty huckleberry pie, make incredible Snickerdoodles, and love a good book.
Linda was born on October 19, 1940, to Eugene and Betty Schatz at St. Luke’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington. She was the eldest of two children. Linda attended Finch Elementary and Fields Elementary and Middle School. She was a proud 1958 graduate of North Central High School, where she played multiple sports, was the golf team captain and manager, president of the Future Teachers of America, and a member of the Red Feathers Drill Team.
She attended Washington State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and a minor in health in 1962. Her first teaching position was teaching junior high and physical education at Salk Middle School in Spokane, Washington. After Salk, she spent a year teaching eighth grade and physical education at Colfax Elementary School in Colfax, Washington, before moving to Auburn, Washington, to teach junior high classes in physical education, science, and health for the next five years. While living in Auburn, she met her husband, Wayne Moyer, and they were married in August 1965. Their only son, Mark, was born in 1969. From 1969 to 1975, Linda taught part-time and substituted at Green River Community College. She worked for Boeing in Seattle, Washington, in the research department from 1975–1977 before moving to Creston, Washington, to resume her teaching in 1977. She taught there for 21 years until her retirement in 1998. After retiring, she and her husband Wayne moved to a small house on Waitts Lake in Stevens County, Washington. She had so many fond memories of the time spent on Waitts Lake with her family and friends. After Wayne’s passing in 2005, she moved to Chewelah, Washington, and enjoyed the wonderful community in Chewelah. In October 2023, Linda moved again to be close to her son Mark and his family in Virginia.
Linda enjoyed traveling. She had the opportunity to live in Gunnedah, Australia, for a year in 1993 with her husband Wayne on a teacher exchange program. She and Wayne visited their son Mark and daughter-in-law Kathleen in Hawaii and later in Belgium at the birth of their first child, Jacob, and then proceeded to travel to France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Germany. Linda and Wayne traveled all over the United States in their motorhome, sightseeing and enjoying each other’s company. Also, many a winter they would drive their motorhome south to join their longtime friends in Arizona for a few months of fun in the sun.
