It is with profound sadness that the family of Lisa Ann Rowell announces her sudden passing on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 62. Lisa was a devoted daughter, a beloved sister, and a cherished aunt to nephew Patrick and her niece Madison. Her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit touched all who knew her.
Lisa was born in Washington, DC and spent her early years growing up in Alexandria, where she excelled both academically and athletically. She was an accomplished swimmer, specializing in freestyle and backstroke, and competed in numerous state championships. Lisa’s grace and skill in the water were unmatched.
In 1976, the Rowell family relocated to North Springfield, Virginia. Lisa continued to shine at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she became a beloved member of her school community. Known for her outgoing personality, infectious smile, and vibrant energy, she participated in the Thomas Jefferson Colonialettes and served as a varsity cheerleader with many of her best friends.
After graduating high school, Lisa continued her education at Virginia Tech, where she earned a degree in Business Management in 1984. During her time at Virginia Tech, she was also a proud little sister of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Lisa was an accomplished professional and spent most her 20+ year career as a government contractor providing senior-level executive support to the Department of Defense, Department of State, other Intelligence Community organizations, and the Federal Aviation Administration. She brought professionalism and a remarkable attention to detail to every endeavor.
Lisa’s life was a testament to resilience. She was fiercely proud of her 23 years of sobriety, and will be remembered by many in her recovery community for her joy and warmth. She had an enormous heart, loved being around people, and could entertain you with endless stories. She was a patient listener and confidant, and eager to provide encouragement and support even when she herself was struggling.
Some of the best memories come from summer vacations in the Outer Banks. Lisa loved the ocean, spending hours in the waves with her niece and nephew, bodysurfing and boogie boarding in the water. Evenings were just as special, starting with rounds of miniature golf, where laughter and playful competition made every game memorable. The day always ended with a trip to Kill Devil Hills Ice Cream. Those summers were filled with simple joys that stayed with her long after.
Lisa is survived by her father, Edward Rowell; her sister, Debbie Frank; her nephew, Patrick Frank; her niece, Madison Frank; several aunts, uncles and cousins as well. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Sue Rowell. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished being together, especially after losing her mom.
Lisa’s legacy is one of love, strength, and a desire to grow spiritually. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Lisa was well loved and reminds us all to cherish every moment and to make a difference in the lives of others.
The family will welcome friends to honor Lisa on Saturday, February 1st, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Demaine Funeral Home, located at 5308 Backlick Road, in Springfield.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with condolences and support during this difficult time.
