Lucille Anita Marchand was born on February 27, 1928 in Lowell, MA to Donat Marchand and Sylvia Boudreau Marchand. After graduating from Lowell High School, she went to work as a civilian in the U.S. Navy and later moved to Arlington, VA to work for the National Security Agency. It is at NSA that she met her husband Raymund V. Nolan. They were married in October 1961 in St. Petersburg, FL and were married for 61 years.
Lucille left the NSA to raise her 3 children in Annandale, VA and was a wonderful stay at home mother. Her biggest pride and joy was her children who she loved very deeply. A compassionate and nurturing soul, Lucille spent her life devoted to her family. She was a woman whose kindness knew no bounds, and her love was a constant, guiding force for those fortunate enough to know her. As a mother, she taught her children the values of empathy, integrity, and strength. Her selflessness, patience, and unwavering support shaped the lives of her loved ones in profound ways. Her warmth and generosity touched the hearts of many, and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she raised and the countless people she helped along the way.
In Lucille’s youth, she was very athletic and was good at waterskiing, snowskiing, golfing and was in a dance performance group. In her later years, Lucille was passionate about bowling and was on a league for over 20 years. She bowled until she was in her 90s and enjoyed the friends she made on the John Weber league. Lucille enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and doing genealogy. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and even with dementia, she could still ballroom dance at the age of 95.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George Marchand (Vivian), Robert Marchand (Madeleine), and her sister Pauline Schollin (David), niece Jeanne Theoret and nephew Paul Marchand.
She is survived by her children: Carolyn Davis (John) of Reston, VA, Janice Hermann (John) of Leesburg, VA, and Raymund Nolan Jr. (Julie) of Cary, NC.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jannen Hermann of New York City, NY, Christian Hermann of Leesburg, VA, Karen, John, Audrey, and Kevin Nolan, all of Cary, NC, her grandpuppies Jett, Phe, Delight, Paris and Piper, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Jackie McMahon (Melanie, Heather), Donald Schollin, Lucille LeBlanc (Carol), Missy Ford, Bekah Ford, Savannah Wilson, Monica Quinn and Theresa Ziemba for their consistent visits during Lucille’s time at Arden Courts, Annandale, VA. Their presence meant the world to her. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Caregiver’s group for their invaluable support over the years.
A short graveside service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on Friday August 28, 2026 at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Lucille’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dementia is very a difficult disease and it is asked that if you know anyone with it, to spend time with them and their caregivers. Lucille’s family thanks you
