Malcolm George Fletcher

Born in Havertown, Pennsylvania, in 1937, Mack developed an early love of history and world affairs. As a boy, he dreamed of becoming a diplomat or a pilot. Although color blindness prevented him from pursuing aviation, it never diminished his determination to serve his country or his fascination with the wider world.

A gifted student, Mack earned a full scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied International Relations and joined Air Force ROTC. He later attended Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on a full scholarship. After serving as an Air Force Intelligence Officer, he embarked on a distinguished 36-year civilian career with the Defense Intelligence Agency. Known simply as "Mack" to colleagues, he became a highly respected Senior Intelligence Analyst whose expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence helped inform national defense policy.

After retiring, Mack and his beloved wife, Katrin, spent long summers at their cherished Vermont cottage. Surrounded by the beauty of the Green Mountains, he enjoyed fishing, swimming, hiking, reading, and the simple rhythms of nature. There, among family and the landscape he loved, he was most at home.

Mack found joy in life's quieter pleasures. He was an avid reader whose knowledge of history seemed endless, a dedicated genealogist, and a gifted photographer whose vibrant flower photographs delighted family and friends. He loved classical music and treasured evenings at the Kennedy Center with Katrin and their children.

Mack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katrin Lotte Fletcher, and his twin brother, Arthur Robertson Fletcher. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Ellett; his daughters, Kirsten Fletcher (Steve Becker) and Forest Kairos (Veronica Kairos); his step-grandson Eric Schwartzkopf (Alissa Greer, Ruth and Emma); and many extended family members and friends who will miss his quiet integrity, love of learning, and devotion to his family.
