On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, LTC Malcolm George Weaver (Ret.), of Alexandria, Virginia passed away peacefully after a long battle with numerous illnesses. He was the beloved husband of 47 years of Cheryl “Cheri” Weaver; the loving father of son, Christopher and daughter, Lauren (Tim); and adoring grandfather to Emerson. He was preceded in death by his father George McDonald Weaver and mother Florence Thrower Weaver. He is survived by his brothers Roger Weaver (Vivian), Forrest Weaver (Debra), his sister Joanne Lucarelli (Lou), a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Malcolm graduated in 1965 from Knoch High School in Saxonburg, PA and Penn State University in 1969, with a major in Accounting. Throughout that time, Malcolm was active in ROTC and the Precision Rifle Drill team. He also attended the Army War College and attained a Master’s degree from George Washington University.
In 1970, he married Cheri, his college sweetheart, and was stationed in Germany after being commissioned as an officer in the Army. He served 22 years in the Army—with tours at multiple posts in the United States, Europe, and Asia—and ended his career with the Adjutant General Corps. Following a brief first retirement, he then spent 22 years in the federal government working at the Defense Information Systems Agency, retiring in 2014.
In addition to his love for his family and friends, Malcolm enjoyed travelling, baseball, gardening, genealogy, and was an active member at Grace Presbyterian Church—where he served as an Elder, choir member, and on various committees. He travelled extensively through Europe and the United States—visiting nearly all 50 states. At any point, Malcolm could be found researching family genealogy or watching the Washington Nationals or Penn State Football. He also took his role of “Pop Pop” very seriously and doted on his granddaughter, Emerson.
Visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral home for friends and family on July 7, 2017 from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Grace Presbyterian Church in Springfield, VA on July 8, 2017 at 11am with a reception to follow in Wester Hall. Interment will be performed at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Malcolm’s name to the Grace Presbyterian Endowment or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
