Margaret was born at home in The Plains, Virginia on June 16, 1930 to Eleanor and Howard Rector, Margaret lived in The Plains for most of her childhood and later moved to Falls Church and Arlington, Virginia where she attended Washington and Lee High School.
Margaret was quoted once as saying, “I feel like my life began when I met Dana.” She was referring to the man who would become her future husband, Dana Lee Scott, Sr. Margaret and Dana met on a blind date and were married three months later on October 14, 1950 in Chevy Chase, Maryland—a union that lasted almost 50 years until Dana’s death in August 2000.
Margaret was happiest at her home of 58 years located in Annandale, Virginia surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was the gathering place for many family celebrations and holidays. The Christmas holidays were particularly memorable. Margaret spent weeks transforming her house into a magical place for the family holiday meal and gift exchange. She was incredibly generous and nothing gave her more joy than the squeals of delight that filled the house as gifts were opened and shared.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dana Lee Scott, Sr.; her infant sons, Alex Scott and Michael Scott; as well as her parents, Howard and Eleanor Rector; and her nine siblings–Charlotte, Helen, Doris, Nell, Rena, Nestle, Lucille, Elwood, and Jimmy.
Margaret is survived by her son, Dana Lee Scott, Jr. (Lois Briggs), her daughter, Karen Scott Nelson (J. Randolph Nelson), her daughter, Robin Scott Millay (Roger Millay), her son, Gordon Scott (Barbara Scott), and her son, Greg Scott (Mindy Scott).
