Marionette Francis Earnest

Marionette (Mary) was born in Coal Valley Alabama to Walter and Rosie (Woods) Lockhart on October 21, 1932. She married George C Earnest, her husband of 59 years, on February 11, 1950. Most of Mary’s married life was spent in support of her husband’s career as an Army officer’s wife which afforded her a life of traveling the world, volunteering and several lifelong friends with a shared experience of the military way of life. After her husband retired, they enjoyed their time together traveling the United States and Canada and being active grandparents to their four granddaughters.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, George C Earnest, her parents, Walter and Rosie Lockhart and her sister, Norma Lee Peters.

Mary is survived by her brother, Homer Lockhart and sister-in-law, Joan Lockhart of Tuscaloosa AL, daughter, Stephanie (Earnest) Hanson and son-in-law, Kurt Hanson of Haymarket VA, daughter, Linda (Earnest) Goldstein and son-in-law, David Goldstein of Rockville MD, granddaughter Samantha (Hanson) Ciardullo and husband, Patrick Ciardullo of Fairfax VA, granddaughter, Brittany Goldstein of New York NY, granddaughter, Lauren Goldstein of Chicago IL, granddaughter, Nicole Goldstein of Rockville MD. Mary is also survived by her step granddaughter, Lori (Hanson) Robertson and husband, Jason Robertson and daughter, Kryslyn Robertson of Winston Salem NC and step grandson, Jason Hanson and wife Evelyn Hanson and children, Leah Burgos, Jacob and Jaden Hanson of Hanover PA.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening, Friday, July 29, 2022 at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield VA.

Burial will be held at a later date in a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
