

Mary was born on July 21, 1928 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Her parents Joseph and Norah emigrated from Ireland and along with her siblings, Annemarie (Nancy), John (Jack), and Joseph (Joe) was raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn NY.
Mary was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School and continued her education at Hunter College, receiving a degree in nursing. After several years working at St. Vincent’s hospital in New York, she decided to enter the military service. During that time, Mary attended Catholic University and received her master’s degree.
Mary spent 29 years serving in the Army Nurse Corp retiring with the rank of Colonel. She was stationed in parts of Europe and throughout the United States. Mary loved her time in the military, especially the people of Fort Belvoir where she was active with the catholic community. She volunteered at church as a lector, member of the choir and hospital ministry.
Mary will be remembered for her love of family and friends and her devotion to the church. She enjoyed seeing new places and traveled extensively throughout the world. Mary will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor and compassion.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Maryanne (Timothy), Eileen (Denis), John (Krista), Kevin, Christopher, and Kathy. Great niece and nephews, Caitlin, Brianna, Timothy, Rose, Monica, John Patrick, Grace and Sean. Mary will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
A visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151, US, on June 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
