Mikal was born in Cherry Point, NC and moved around the country as a child, as he grew up in a military household. First moving to California and then to Virginia, he went on to attend Virginia Tech. While there, he would meet his wife, and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Computer Science. He later attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, and then George Washington University where he received a Master of Science in Computer Science.
An early adopter and user of computers, Mikal went on to specialize in computer programming and led a distinguished career at the Central Intelligence Agency and his own computer technology companies.
In addition to being a fierce competitor in acey-deucey, Mikal was also an avid photography enthusiast. He loved gifting his photos, and was always looking to capture and focus on the positive aspects of life. A kind and generous father, Mikal loved being involved in his kids’ activities and watching them grow and learn.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Fioramonti Pedersen of Great Falls, VA; three children, Elizabeth Pedersen Harrington (Beau) of Oakland, CA, Mikal Robert Pedersen (Chelsey) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and John Andreas Pedersen (Meaghan) of Colorado Springs, CO; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for family members on Saturday, January 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. A livestream will be provided for those who wish to attend online.
