

She was born on January 2, 1936 in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. She was married to James P. Cowgill and they were married for 64 years. Her children include James A. Cowgill, LMFT, Culver City, CA; preceded in death by Marcus Charles Cowgill, PhD. Her siblings preceded her in death, sister Danita Meadows Harper, and brother, Isaac Sesner Meadows.
She retired as full Professor of English, Prince George’s Community College, MD, after 26 years tenure in that position. Previously taught in public schools in Louisiana, New Jersey, and California.
Her accomplishments and honors included “Miss Beauregard Parish,” winner of beauty and talent competition, “Princess,” at statewide festivals. Academic scholarship to two Louisiana state universities, Tri Sigma sorority member, President, LSU YWCA, President, LSU Hellenic Council; Outstanding First-Year Teacher, Baton Rouge, LA. Bachelor of Arts (LSU) and Master of Arts (University of Southern California) degrees; studied at twelve colleges and universities in her academic career.
Local area group memberships include Member, Faith Methodist Church; Elder, Kirkwood Presbyterian Church; Member, Grace Presbyterian Church; Springfield Women’s Club.
Her other (hobbies, travel, interests, etc.): Traveled in England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Bahamas, and South Africa. Gourmet cook. Gifted seamstress who sewed her own dresses. Operated, “Naomi’s Living Antiques,” boutiques across northern Virginia in her retirement.
Memorial service scheduled March 25, 2023, 2:00 pm, Grace Presbyterian Church, 7434 Bath Street, Springfield, VA. Contributions to charitable causes, vs. flowers, suggested as memorials.
