I grew up with Nick but lost touch with him after our family moved across the country during our middle school years. I’m not sure if he would have admitted it but we spent a ton of time together growing up pushing the limits of what our parents would be mad about. We once got chewed out by a neighbor for burning grass with a magnifying glass to make one of many things we probably did. One of my favorite memories was when he bought an old camcorder from my parents garage sale and we spent a summer and fall making a film that be basically had to do in one take because none of us knew how to edit film. I’ve randomly thought about him throughout the years when I think back in my childhood, and was saddened to learn that he passed when I decided to Google him out of nowhere. Nick, I know A lot happened between 2001 and your passing but I hope your short time on this earth was a good one. I’m glad we were friends for a small chunk of it, and you were definitely a happy memory of my childhood.

Not sure who is checking Nick's memorial page, but whoever is reading, Nick is in my thoughts often. He was my first of firsts. I wouldn't have all the wit and interests that I do today without his presence. He really wanted to meet my daughter and I wish he did. Unbelievable that it's been 2 years. After his passing, I learned so much about his young life; before and after he was adopted from Russia. It was an incredible heartwarming story. Roy Jones has always been good at telling stories but I could tell that was his favorite one. 

I also hope his family is doing okay. Chris, Alex, and Olga may or may not remember me! It's true what they say about pain. It never leaves us, but we learn to walk with it.

I remember the time I went to New York with Nick, Alex and met Desi and her husband Kenny.  Anyway, we stayed on Long Island, went to beach and one day we went into NYC to ground zero to see the memorial and Freedom Tower.  We enjoyed that.

Then on the drive home, I was so tired that we needed to go to the rest stop.   Oh, I forgot we had to take a little detour to New Jersey to buy "better" fireworks.  Well, when we got back on the road I forgot to put my lights on so a few minutes later, a policeman stopped us and made me walk a straight line and put my figure up to my nose.  It was quite an ordeal.

Well it was a fun and very memorable trip and Nick and Alex were very happy I could take them.  We were like the 3 stooges.

I knew Nick since he was in middle school at Irving.  In the Spring of 2002, shortly after I moved in next door, he showed up on my doorstep one morning and told me that he missed the bus.  Of course, he got a ride to school that day.  And that began an admiration for this beautiful, smart young man.  I just learned about his passing in December at a memorial service for a neighbor's father.  I was so shocked, and saddened.  Lisa and Roy, you did everything possible to help keep Nick on track.  Chris and Alex, you set the example for how to be a big brother to little brother Nick.  Nick, you did not get a fair shake from your birth mother and I just feel sick about that.  Lisa and Roy and your family loved you so much and did everything they could to help you.  Your essence is timeless.  May you rest in God's abiding love and grade.  Mrs. H.

Nick, you were my second friend at Irving when I had to repeat 8th grade. I remember cracking you up in the morning when I mimicked Morrissey’s voice or hit the high notes from The Darkness. You, Alex, and I would move through the school day punctuated by our walks down the hallway singing our favorite songs that nobody else knew. Once Evey came into my life, it was one of my favorite time periods. Me and Alex, you and Evey. Thanks to you, me and Evey bonded so much because we were the girlfriends of two best friends that we loved so much. 

I agree with Evey that your qualities were timeless. You could have been a poet or philosophical writer in any era, they would have learned a lot from you. I hope that when we all come back, the world is a better place and you will thrive beyond your wildest dreams. 

Alex, Evey, and I miss you being on Earth with us. My promise to you is that I’m going to stay by Alex and Evey’s side no matter what, because we’re going to help keep your memory alive. 

Learn much on the other side, let’s all have the best life ever on the next one. 

I remember meeting Nick in around 2014.  He was about 23 and looked just like Leonardo Dicaprio.  We went to meetings together and he helped me here and there.  We worked well together and laughed alot.  He has great parents and a beautiful Dad who gave him so much.  I pray that Nick is at rest and send a prayer and a hug to his parents.  💕

        I want you to know that you’ve meant so much to me. Words can’t say what I truly mean; I just want to say that I love you, I miss you, and you are forever in my heart. Our friendship will forever remain unbreakable.


Nicks passing has been hard to accept. He was my first love and someone I felt great affection for for so many years. We had a lot of firsts together. And even after I left Springfield, we’d  go 1-2 years without speaking (naturally) then suddenly go right back where we left off - telling the same horrible jokes that I’d feel bad for laughing at. He made me laugh in all the same ways he used to and thought of his humors and affections as timeless in a way.  I wish I had the chance to at least say goodbye. I’ve been reminiscing on all of the good times we had together and trying to keep a smile on my face despite the troubled life I knew he lived.  I’ll absolutely never forget Nick Jones; he lives on as a part of me forever. I’ve considered traveling up there for the funeral, however being a single mother with a full-time job makes it difficult.  My heart goes out to his family who did everything they could for him. And his long term partner Jen who I know loved him deeply.
