Patricia Ann Robinson (née Jones), 85, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods. Born on March 6, 1939, in Troy, New York, she was the daughter of the late Nancy Ryan Jones and Joseph Jones. Affectionately known as Pat, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a respected educator whose tender demeanor and steadfast commitment profoundly impacted her loved ones and students.
In her youth, Pat was a talented dancer, dance teacher, and recognized scholar. A graduate of Troy High School, she pursued higher education at Russell Sage College, earning a degree in Elementary Education. She continued her lifelong passion for learning by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia. Her esteemed career in education began as an elementary school teacher, evolved into a role as an English as a Second Language (ESL) (now known as English for Speakers of Other Languages [ESOL]) teacher, and reached its pinnacle in her distinguished service as an ESL Curriculum Developer and Instructor who coached and mentored elementary school ESL teachers for Fairfax County Public Schools.
It was at Troy High School that she met the love of her life, Edward Charles Robinson. Their courtship continued through their college years, Pat’s at Russell Sage College, and Ed’s at the United States Military Academy at West Point. They were united in marriage on December 26, 1959, and Pat embraced the life of a military spouse with grace and fortitude. She supported Ed through his career as a United States Army officer, adapting to life across the globe from Wurzburg, Germany, to Taipei, Taiwan, as well as various domestic assignments. Her unwavering support was paralleled only by her devoted nurturing of their three children, Steven, Scott, and Sheryl.
Pat took pleasure in exploring the world with her husband and treasured every opportunity to gather with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She was witty, with a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a warm smile. Pat was the epitome of compassion, patience, and selflessness, and she had a loving heart. She never missed an opportunity to provide acknowledgement, encouragement, and support, not only to her family, but also to her friends, students, neighbors, and everyone she met.
Left to honor Pat and remember her love are her devoted husband of 65 years, Ed; her children, Steven Robinson (Stephanie) of Ellicott City, Maryland, Scott Robinson (Jamie) of Madison, Alabama, and Sheryl Harlow of Lake Ridge, Virginia; her adored grandchildren, Tim Robinson, Nicole Robinelli, Kellie Harlow, Kerrie Harlow, and Katelyn Harlow; her sister, Lois Pollock; her brother, Lynn Jones (Jean); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will announce details of a memorial service in due course. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
The funeral arrangements are under the care of Demaine Funeral Home, located in Springfield, Virginia.
