

Richard (Dick) was born on September 5, 1926 in Detroit, MI to Charles A. and Ruth E. Denny (McKenzie). He attended Southeastern High School in Detroit, MI where he met Helen L. Denny (Kowalske). They were married on June 25, 1947. Richard graduated from Iowa State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering. During his career, he worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Detroit Water Works, Chrysler Airtemp, American Standard, Tappan and Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute. He also earned a professional engineer’s license. Richard was a veteran of WWII and served in the Navy.
Richard’s favorite activity was golf. After retiring, he played on a senior golf league at Greendale Golf Course in Alexandria, VA where he also volunteered as a marshal. He served as President of the Board of Directors of the Civic Association of West Springfield where he was known for having automated the association’s procedures.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen.
Richard is survived by his children, Marvin and wife Karen of Huntington Beach, CA; Gary and wife Elizabeth “Libby” of Charlottesville, VA; and Sharon Denny of Woodbridge, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nick and Adam Denny.
