

Robert “Bud” Wagar, of Springfield, VA and South Dennis, MA passed away on February 14, 2016, at Greenspring Village, in the company of his family. Bud was born in Schenectady, NY on May 16, 1923, to Harry Jones Wagar and Ellen Dorothea Behm Wagar. He attended a one room schoolhouse in Verdoy and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady in 1941. During World War II, Bud served in North Africa and Italy with the U.S. Army, 803rd MP Battalion. After attending OCS, he also served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps of Engineers. He attended Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY where he was a member of Chi Phi and from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1950. Bud briefly worked for General Electric before a long career with Mobil Oil, from which he retired in 1982. Bud was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Jeanne Hernon Wagar. He is survived by daughters Barbara (Steve Hennessy), Suzanne (Jerry Harris) and Shelley Wagar Sabo (Dave Casal) and granddaughter, Courtney Sabo (Kevin Mahoney), as well as a host of neighbors and friends from high school, college, career, church and his volunteer work. Bud was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the Mobil Annuitants Club. During retirement he also served as a docent at the National Cathedral in Washington DC for over 30 years. Bud frequently indulged his love of international travel, visiting 5 continents and 40 countries, and traveling to Prague as recently as December 2014, at age 91. For the past 35 summers, he enjoyed hosting family and friends, clamming, town band concerts, Cape league baseball and spirited family croquet tournaments on the Cape.
Visitation will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Sydenstricker Road, Burke, VA on Thursday, February 18 at 10:00 AM with services at 11:00 AM and with a reception immediately following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Ministry for Tomorrow. Interment will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY.
