
Robert Overman age 75 died at the George Washington University Hospital on March 19th after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 31, 1946, to the late Captain Robert L. and E. Minetta Overman and has lived in the Northern Virginia area since 1986.
Robert graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida; earned an AA Degree in Liberal Arts from Florida Community College in Jacksonville, Florida; and attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida majoring in chemistry and biology before entering the Navy. After serving in the US Navy Silent Service as a Chief Petty Officer, Rob served in the US Naval Reserve. Following his naval career he continued to serve his country as a Military Analyst in the private sector.
Robert was an avid reader, illustrated a medical book, worked part time for H&R Block and served as an Elections Officer. He enjoyed painting, cooking, and attending car shows and baseball games. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley; stepson John McMillin; close friend Captain Sharon Reinke; his nephew Robert Morgan Jones; and a great nephew and great niece. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Joann Jones.
There will be a Mass of Celebration of the Life of Robert “Joseph” Adair Overman at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia, on April 30, 2022, at 1:00 pm and Bob will be buried at sea.
