Russell was born on October 28, 1955, in Independence, Missouri, to Everett and Beverly Boyd. He earned a degree in Biology from Graceland College and later received his master’s degree from Truman University. On June 20, 1981, he married the love of his life, Anita, in LaPlata, Missouri, beginning a devoted marriage of more than 40 years.
A proud patriot and distinguished veteran, Russell served honorably as a Major in the United States Air Force. He continued his life of service through a respected career supporting government-contracted organizations as an enterprise architect and recognized expert in his field. Brilliant, disciplined, and deeply knowledgeable, he also authored a book sharing the expertise he spent a lifetime developing.
Above all, Russell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was deeply proud of his daughters, Jenna and Kelsey, and found great joy in watching his grandchildren, Connor and Quinn, grow and flourish. Known lovingly as “Pop Pop,” he celebrated his family’s accomplishments with quiet pride and unwavering love.
Russell was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words mattered. Honest, direct, wise, and often humorous, he had a way of saying exactly what he thought and leaving a lasting impression. Beneath his straightforward nature was a loyal and deeply caring man whose devotion to those he loved never wavered.
He found joy in the simple things: cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Antonio Spurs, spending time with family, enjoying crab cakes, playing Dig Dug, being near the ocean, spending time on his boat, listening to Jimmy Buffett, and caring for the beloved pets who were part of his life, including Finn, Scrunchie, Frankie, and the Hermit Crabs.
Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Boyd. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Boyd; daughters, Jenna Cauchi and Kelsey Boyd; father, Everett Boyd; brothers, Bart and Dale Boyd; grandchildren, Connor and Quinn Cauchi; son-in-law, Matthew Cauchi; and many friends, colleagues, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
A military service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Friday June 26, 2026 at 10:30am located at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that loved ones spend time with family, cheer loudly for their favorite team, and speak honestly, just as Russell always did.
