

Russ Reber died on June 26, 2012, at the age of 89. Russ passed away after suffering declining health for the past year following a stroke in August 2011. Russ is survived by his three children, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His wife Joan predeceased him in death in the year 2000.
Russ was born in the tiny town of Naper, Nebraska. He joined the US Navy at the start of World War II, and traveled to Australia and Japan during the war. He continued his career in the Navy after the war, rising to the rank of master Chief Petty Officer, and retired after 22 years of service. He then transitioned to the US Department of Labor, where he worked for 14 years in the Information Services area. He retired 1977 at the age of 55. He and his wife then had many adventurous trips, visiting national parks, their children, and particularly for Russ to participate in senior softball. Russ will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Demaine Funeral Home Springfield on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 6 to 8pm. Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 1:00pm in the Demaine Chapel. Service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 9:00am at Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, Virginia. Family and friends will need to meet at Admin Building by 8:30am.
