Sally Elizabeth Wild, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away suddenly on September 17, 2024, in Fairfax, Virginia, surrounded by family and close friends. She was a young 80 year old.
Born on D-Day (June 6, 1944) in Darby, Pennsylvania. Sally was an only child and was very involved in activities at a young age - cheerleading, lacrosse, and playing the piano. She knew she wanted to help people so went into the medical field and graduated from Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing. She made lifelong friends in High School and Nursing School.
Sally's career was spent in and around the Operating Room, being the Director of Surgical Services. After "retiring" from the Operating room, she decided to do something different and worked for Target. She was known for her exceptional work ethic, her commitment to her colleagues, and her ability to connect with those around her. She continued to work two jobs, even with her diagnoses of Pancreatic Cancer and Chemo treatments. She loved her Cash Office work at Target and helping run the office at Complete Dermatology of Virginia as well as being the "mayor" of Building 4003, where she lived. She lived life fully to the end.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Betty Boone, and many close friends who she considered family.
Sally's greatest joy, however, was her family (and close friends she called family). She is survived by: Children: Ted and Michel Spies, Leanne Spies and Tito Cortes, and Shannon Fletcher and Vince Taylor, and many others who she was a second "mother" to. Beloved Grandchildren: Camille, Dominic, and Marcus Cortes; Michael and Shianne Payne and Keyah Taylor; David and Morgan Datz, Jackie Spies, Teddy and Victoria Spies, Zach Spies, and Nick Spies. Dearest Great-Grandchildren: Samantha Emerson; Lauren Spies; Julia Spies; Ava, Peyton, Tripp, and Aiden Datz; Valerie, Bobby, October, and Forrest Spies. Also, all those who had the privilege to call her Nana and many close friends.
In addition, Sally loved the beach; gardening; the Bachelor; spending time with family and friends; peaches (especially peach milkshakes from Chick-fil-a); animals: tigers, dolphins, horses, dogs, and cats - even had a pet duck growing up; Coke; Wind Song Perfume; petting zoos with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; celebrating holidays and birthdays; drawing and painting; and reading (as long as she did not fall asleep LOL).
As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Sally was a rock for the family who loved and took care of us all. Her heart was full of joy, especially when she was cheering on her favorite grandchildren or attending a school event. She was loving, supportive, selfless, generous, kind, caring, and had a warmth that made everyone feel welcome. She also loved a good conversation and her laughter and energy filled the room.
A celebration of Sally's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to either of these charities:
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) - Select Tribute Type = "In Memory of", then Honoree Name = "Sally Wild"
https://protect.worldwildlife.org/page/52883/donate/1?locale=en-US
Tiger World - Select Write a note and reference "In Memory of Sally Wild"
Sally Wild will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and who will forever cherish her memory.
