Thirston Donald Gilbert, 86, of Magnolia, AK, died December 9th 2015. “Gil”, son of Minor and Martha Gilbert, loving husband of Ida Giesla Gilbert, passed away at his care center in Fort Belvoir, VA after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife Ida, son Christian (Cheryl) and daughter Linda. He is also survived by one grandson, Chase, and one on the way. Gilbert retired from active duty as a Command Sergeant Major and began his 2nd retirement in 1996, he loved to garden and read military history. He also loved working with youth, spending time with friends and watching baseball. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services will be held Tuesday, the 20th of January at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, VA at 12 noon.
