Obituary of Virginia Wilhelm Cannon

IN THE CARE OF

Demaine Funeral Home

On the morning of April 20, 2019, Virginia Cannon, of Annandale, Virginia, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. Virginia Cannon was born in 1927 to Harry Hunter Wilhelm and Kathryn (Bromley) Wilhelm in Washington D.C. and grew up in Glover Park. The oldest of three, she was pre-deceased by both her brother Harry W. Wilhelm M.D. and sister Mary Bruno. Virginia was the widow of W. Robert Cannon, also originally of Glover Park. She is survived by three children: Mary Kathryn Sylvester (Steve), Robert Wilhelm Cannon (Francine), and Gary Blaine Cannon (Alicia); eight grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren – all of whom adored her. She was a resident of Annandale since 1954 and an active member of Annandale United Methodist Church. Virginia had a distinguished career as a staffing specialist with the Federal Government. While employed at Health, Education, and Welfare, the Environmental Protection Agency was formed. She was asked to join and assist with staffing this new agency where she worked until her (first) retirement. After a short time, she returned to work at the Tuesday Morning store in Baileys Crossroads and subsequently at the jewelry counter of the Hecht Company at Landmark. Always a very social and cheerful person, her work experience allowed her to enjoy her love of meeting and talking with people. Confident in her faith, she could not contain the joy within and eagerly shared it with those around her, constantly lifting spirits and building friendships.
