It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wallace M. Hall (Wally), 82, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 5, 1943, with a heart as generous as his smile, Wally lived a life defined by love, laughter, service, and storytelling. A proud native of the Fairfax County, Virginia area, he met the love of his life, Gloria, at a fireman’s carnival at the Belle View Shopping Center. The two instantly connected and went on to share 61 beautiful years of marriage — a bond that stood as an inspiration to all who knew them.
Wally wore many hats throughout his life — from grocery store worker and taxicab driver to bus driver and chauffeur — always finding joy in connecting with others along the way. In his younger years, he played electric guitar in a local band with friends, filling dance halls with music and memories. His lifelong love of music and dancing never faded.
A dedicated volunteer firefighter, Wally answered countless calls, saving lives, protecting his neighbors, and even helping deliver a baby — acts of courage that reflected his boundless compassion. His service to his community was only matched by his love of landscaping. With a true green thumb, he could make anything grow and took great pride in his landscaping, always making sure his yard was as full of life as his spirit.
An avid freshwater fisherman, Wally could often be found by the water with a line cast and a smile on his face. He also had a soft spot for McDonald’s and a good order of hot fries. Playing BINGO was one of his favorite pastimes, where he was known for his good luck and infectious laugh. It was the simple pleasures that brought him great delight.
Known for his big heart and gift for storytelling, Wally loved taking his friends and family on tours of Mount Vernon, Old Town Alexandria, and Washington, D.C., sharing tales of local history and personal memories with unmatched enthusiasm. His love for his community was perhaps best seen each holiday season when he dressed up as Santa Claus, handing out candy canes, listening to children’s Christmas wishes, and reporting back to the North Pole to make sure Santa was fully prepared.
After many years in Northern Virginia, Wally and Gloria settled in Halifax County, Virginia, where they have made their home for the past 15 years. There, he continued his love of the outdoors, his passion for helping others, and his joy in sharing stories with friends and neighbors.
Above all else, Wally loved his family deeply. He never missed a chance to make them laugh, share a story, or slip a little something extra into his grandchildren’s pockets. He was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride. His kindness, warmth, and laughter will echo through generations.
Wally is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria; his loving children, Chris (Casey), Teresa (Tim), and Rodney (Dani); his treasured grandchildren, Conner, Peyton (Dre’), Nina (Eric), Cameron (Veronica), Reese (Sarah), and Asher; his adored great-grandchildren, Greyson, Maverick, Jackson, and Sadie; his cherished sister, Marti (Carl); special relative, Crystal; and a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors whose lives were brighter for having known him. Wally was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Emma Hall; one twin brother, Walter, and six sisters, Dorothy “Dot”, Margaret, Eleanor, Blanche, Bert, and Nancy.
A graveside committal service will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery, located at 6600 S. Kings Highway, Alexandria, Virginia, 22306. The service is scheduled for October 23, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
A celebration of life will be held at Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department in Halifax, Virginia on November 1, 2025 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to funeral expenses, your local fire department or the Alzheimer’s Association in his honor.
Though our hearts ache with loss, we take comfort in knowing that Wally lived a full, beautiful life — one filled with love, laughter, service, and stories that will be told for years to come.
