Walter was born in Whipple, West Virginia and passed away in Springfield, Virginia. He served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 in the American, Pacific, and European-North African Theaters. He actively participated in the invasions of Anzio, southern France and Okinawa. He received a Masters of Science degree from West Virginia University, and subsequently taught Chemistry and Physics for 32 years, first at Mt. Hope High School in West Virginia and then at Annandale High School here in Annandale, Virginia. He was married to Ella Sue Romm, his hometown sweetheart, for 56 years before her passing away in 2009. Walter is survived by his two sons, David of Carrollton Virginia, and Mark of Springfield Virginia, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday March 1st, 2017 at 10am. Please arrive at the Administration Building at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Immediately following these services everyone is invited to join us in a Celebration of Walter’s Life at Houlihan’s Restaurant, located in the Springfield Hilton Hotel, 6550 Loisdale Road, Springfield, VA 22150.
