From Liz and Jimmy (Son):  My father-in-law Bill always enjoyed family meals; especially desserts that came with whipped cream. One of my favorite and funniest moments with him (and there were many) was as the family has dubbed it, "The Whipped Cream Incident."  Bill's favorite whipped cream was the Redi-Whip that came in the Red can and made with real cream. On an evening that I was serving dessert to him, I tried to sneak in the "less fat" version of Redi-Whip --hiding the can so he couldn't see it when I topped his dessert. I thought to myself, no one would taste the difference and it's healthier.  When the dessert was served there was an immediate reaction by the soft-spoken and always grateful Bill, which froze everyone in their place. His gaze of disbelief and disappointment locked on me and he called out "hey what are you trying pull here! Bring me the real stuff." Quickly noting that it was not the beloved Redi-Whip in the red can. The jig was up and we all laughed as I did the walk of shame back to the fridge praying we had the "real stuff" tucked away in there -- and luckily it was and will always be in my fridge. The man liked what he liked!

Jimmy always reminiscences about the times spent with his father and uncle Nick on the farm in North Dakota. Many adventures were had with the men, and many, many, evenings spent together watching back-to-back episodes of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Jim always admired the physical strength of his dad. He remembered the time his dad was helping move a heavy wooden piece of furniture. Bill watched the young men struggle moving the Armoire up the steps and then stepped in and heaved it up.  He showed the young bucks, Jim and his friend, how it was done  -- a strong lion he was!


From Caroline Symionow:  I will always remember all the things he would build for us as kids. In Particular, he made us kid-sized tables and stools where we would draw, color, and even eat meals when at Gran and Grandpa's house. After I moved away to Colorado he would share stories with me about his time in Colorado exploring the wilderness and experiencing the snowstorms. Grandpa was often a man of few words on the phone, but he always checked in with me about school, my job, and of course my dogs who he called my "two friends." He would always ask "Are your two friends taking care of you in Colorado." I can always remember his big full chuckle when he laughed and how much he enjoyed telling stories at family gatherings too. 

I've known Mr. Symionow for many many years.  He was a wonderful and kind man. Always kept jane and I in check.  Rip mr Symionow 

I will always remember going to the Symionow house in grade school and being made to feel welcome. Mr. Symionow always sat and talked to me like a friend - not an adult talking down to a child. And there was always great food - a tradition you carry on to this day. Jane, you did a great job taking care of your parents. You are a loving, caring person.

Neighbors sent cards w the following: * Your Dad was a special neighbor. His smile & pleasant conversation will certainly be missed by all who had the good fortune to encounter him. * We met your father 20 yrs ago while walking. He liked to talk about Airborne days w my husband. we always enjoyed talking w your Dad or waving to him from the porch. He will be missed by many of the walkers. * He was always friendly. Our neighborhood will miss him. *I knew your father from my walks. Always gave a friendly wave hello. He will be missed. * May his memory be eternal. I'm sure he's still giving those friendly waves from the skies. *We both enjoyed seeing your Dad out & about. Jerry especially enjoyed chatting w him about military service. *He always had a kind word when we crossed paths. *We'll miss seeing him. He always brought a smile to our faces. *I will miss chatting w him as I walk past. *He was always so kind to me & my daughter on his walks. *It's people like your father that make this neighborhood a gem. * I called him Sarge. He really embodied all that makes out neighborhood special. His presence is & will be sorely missed. * I always enjoyed running into your dad on our walks. He was always smiling. *He was a wonderful person who always waved & said hello. He made a lot of people smile. * It was wonderful to talk to him as he sat on the porch. Always amazing to see him walking even later with a walker/rollator. He made this a better place. *
