Yvonne DeGree Taylor

Born on April 30, 1936, in Renville, Minnesota, Yvonne was the youngest of six children. When she was four years old, her family moved from their farm into town, where her father opened a general store. Yvonne treasured those early years and especially enjoyed helping her father in the family business.

Yvonne began her college education in Minnesota before following her older sister, MaryLou, to California. She later accepted a position with the Newman Club in Washington, DC, and eventually earned her teaching degree from the University of Virginia in 1961. While teaching physical education at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria she met her husband, Edwin "Archie" Taylor. The two were married for 64 wonderful years.

After starting a family, Yvonne devoted herself to raising her children while continuing her passion for education. She began as a substitute teacher at Woodley Hills Elementary School and later served as a teaching assistant there for 14 years. Whether in the classroom or at home, Yvonne was dedicated to helping others learn, grow, and succeed.

Yvonne found great joy in time spent with her family. She loved playing cards and board games, completing crossword puzzles in ink, and caring for those around her. Her kindness, patience, and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

A devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for nearly 60 years, Yvonne lived her faith through service, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.

Yvonne is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Edwin "Archie" Taylor; her children, Mary (Greg) DellaPeruto and T.J. Taylor; her grandchildren, Mina (Thom) Corbett, Christopher Taylor, and Ryan DellaPeruto; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Rylee Corbett.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tim Taylor.

Yvonne will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and lifelong commitment to education. Her gentle spirit touched countless lives and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Yvonne’s life and legacy. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 11:00 am - 11:30 am at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia. A reception will immediately follow at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery.
