Carl was born August 19, 1924 near Lepanto, Arkansas in Poinsett County to the late Joseph Sheffield and Dora Knauss Sheffield. He was a servant of God as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather (known as Papa Farm), uncle and friend to all he came in contact with. He was an active member and deacon of West Side General Baptist Church while living in St. Louis and Ottery Creek General Baptist Church of Belleview, Missouri during his retirement years. He was married September 18, 1943 to Rose Zetta Rogers and soon moved to St. Louis to make a living. They had 64 wonderful years together.
Carl learned to be an automobile mechanic and worked for car dealerships and ran his own "shade tree" business at home. He served for a brief time in the Army right after WWII. In 1969, he and Rose bought a place in the country (the farm) which became their dream retirement place and they eventually retired there until health issues returned them to St. Louis. He was a man of integrity, loved his family, and could fix anything on wheels.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Zetta (nee Rogers); parents, Joseph and Dora (nee Knauss) Sheffield; three brothers, William, Joseph and Glen; and one grandchild, Steven Ray Noel.
