I looked forward to our HHS reunion to reconnect with Dan. He is sorely missed by our FB family.

I am so sorry for your loss.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

For 23 year, Dan and my sister, Margie, shared their home and lives.  

Sometimes seemingly gruff on the exterior, you didn't need to know Dan for very long before it was obvious that on the interior, he was a gentle, caring, generous man. Dan's generosity extended to offering his home to Margie's son, Rick, and her granddaughter, Ashley.  For a brief time, Dan and Margie welcomed Dan's elderly mother to their home.  
 
Dan --- an only child himself --- was a family man, who attended all the important events, not only in his family, but in Margie's family, as well.  It is telling that Dan's last act was painting his deck, to spruce it up for Ashley's high school graduation party.  Dan embraced and welcomed Margie's family.

Dan had a son and two daughters, all of whom he enjoyed talking and bragging about. Dan was a patriot and took great pride in his son's military service.
 
Dan was a strong willed man, with firm convictions.  He wouldn't shy away from an argument and expressing his strong opinions.  He and I gravitated to each other at family gatherings  largely because we shared the same conservative political principles --- strong support for the free enterprise system, and a belief that more often than not, government was the problem, not the solution.  

If you really wanted to get Dan riled, all you had to do was mention gun control.  Dan was a gun owner and a rapid advocate for the rights of law-abiding gun ownership.  

Having lived in the same region all of his life, he strongly resented the changes leading to the deterioration of his neighborhood and region.  

Dan had a strong work ethic and believed in personal reliance and responsibility, not government handouts.  His work habits made it difficult for him to transition to retirement after a career in the trucking industry  including serving as a consultant, after he had officially retired. 
  
Dan will be missed, as he long ago was considered a member of our family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this very difficult time.   I knew Dan years ago in  high school.  We just recently reconnected on facebook.  I enjoyed looking at his facebook posts regarding his family and his love of dogs.  Rest in Peace Dan.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Dan was a high school friend.  Although we had not sen each other since school, many of us reconnected on FB.  Hazelwood High 1968 class.  Dan's sense of humor put a smile on all our faces.  He will be missed by many.  I do regret we all did not have an official get together.  I am sure he was even funnier in person. He seemed very happy. I am glad for that.

Deepest sympathy to the Broughton and Meyer Families. Dan took great care of my Aunt Margie and cousins. I enjoyed his company at our family events.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I did not know Dan, but he must have been quite special to have the love of my Aunt Margie.  You are all in my prayers.  Love you Aunt Margie.
