Ed is survived by his son-in-law, Mark Eckert; grandchildren, Trisha Eckert (Greg Bertels) and Michael Eckert Jr. (Almira Maycong); great grandchildren, Melody Eckert (Thomas Cornelius) and Caleb Bertels; nieces, Diane Tomsik and Cecilia; and many other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Irene Hilke; his wife, Effie Hilke; daughter, Donna Eckert; and his brothers, Christopher, Ray, and Joseph Hilke.
Ed proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Directly after his military service, he went to work for the General Electric Lamp Plant and continued working there for over 35 years, retiring in 1994. In his free time, Ed enjoyed fishing, going to the Lake of the Ozarks, trying his luck at the local casino, and listening to classic country music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, especially during his favorite time of year, the Holiday season. Ed will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his big-hearted nature. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
