George was born in St. John, Missouri on November 9, 1936 to John C. and Bernice E. Mayers (nee: Christmer), who preceded him in death. He was the beloved husband of over 17 years to Jean Mayers (nee: George); loving father of Donna Bell, Jackie Tate (Jerry), and Kim Baker (Jeff), and step-father of Michael Jenkins (Jody) and Ronald Jenkins; devoted grandfather of many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and dear brother of Jack Mayers (Gene). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. George is also preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Doris Mayers (nee: Kuntz); and his siblings, Gloria Forte and Rich Mayers.
George graduated from high school and, soon after, became a St. Louis City Police Officer. He served the St. Louis City community with the K9 unit for some 10 years. Then, following in his father’s footsteps, he became a Pipefitter and worked as a Pipefitter for over 30 years before he retired. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, playing on his bowling league, participating on his church’s baseball team, and singing in a trio at a local church. He was an active member of BridgeWay Church Assembly of God in Bridgeton, where he served on the board and on the Worship Team. George was very strong in his faith and because he trusted that God would take care of him, he never felt the need to worry. He was quick to love and slow to anger. He will be remembered as an even-tempered man who loved to laugh, made friends easily, and was loved by all who knew him. George will truly be missed by all those persons whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in George’s name to Gideon’s Memorial Bible Fund.
