James was born in Mobile, Alabama to James Sr. and Rosie Nell Williams who preceded him in death. He was the loving father of Evvert L. Williams (Felicia) and step father of Elizabeth Fitzpatrick (Jerome), William Jefferson (April), Nathaniel Jefferson (Aquima), and Vincent Jefferson (Tiffany); beloved brother of Sylvia Hopkins (the late James), Mary Nell White (the late Rudolph), Arthalie Jones (the late George), Jezzie Rae Chambers (Cleo), the late Lilla Mae Montgomery, the late Robert C. Williams (Catherine), Melbia Williams, and Meline Williams; and dear grandfather to a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
James was born and raised in a large family in Mobile, Alabama and he graduated from Blunt High School in Mobile. He loved to go back home to Mobile whenever he could to re-visit his old stomping grounds. In 1974, James moved with his family to St. Louis, Missouri. He worked for St. Mary’s Hospital of St. Louis for 25 years. James was a faithful and long-time member of Northern Missionary Baptist Church of St. Louis where he served as an Assistant Pastor for nearly 35 years. As his health began to decline, James began pastoring to the sick and the shut-in members of Northern Missionary Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a good and hard-working man who was outgoing and had a great sense of humor. James will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Services: The family is being served by Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Northern Missionary Baptist Church, 3333 Clara Ave, St. Louis, MO 63120, on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10:00am. Interment at Lake Charles Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in James’ name to Northern Missionary Baptist Church.
