Survived by his wife, Suzanne (nee Hodgson) Walker; son, Jason Christopher (Jami) and step grandson, Xander; daughter, Jayme (Christopher) Suzanne Zimmer and granddaughters, Lucy and Lainie Zimmer; and his sister, Veta (Johnny) Hobbs and their sons Kerry, Wesley, and Douglas.
Jimmy was born in Bakersfield California and reared in Irving Texas. He graduated from Irving High School in 1960. He loved playing football for the Tigers but spent every spare minute outside of school playing golf.
Jimmy graduated from Cisco (Texas) Junior College where he was an outstanding member of their football team and, as a result, was named to the Junior College All American Football Team. After Junior College, Jimmy transferred on a scholarship to Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was a member of one of their most outstanding football teams, coached by Glenn Dobbs and Sammy Baugh. Fellow team mates included Jerry Rome and Howard Twilley. Jimmy also was a member of T.U.’s golf team.
Jimmy and Suzanne were married on February 1st, 1964. After graduating from T.U. in 1965, Jimmy taught health, physical education, and mathematics at Tulsa’s Horace Mann Junior High School. Suzanne was also employed by Tulsa Public Schools as an art teacher. Jimmy then was hired by Mediservice Hospital Housekeeping Contract Services where he became Vice President in Charge of Operations, which took him and his family to St. Louis, Missouri. Eventually he served as Director of Housekeeping for several area hospitals; St. Mary’s in East St. Louis, St. Joseph’s in St. Charles, and Lutheran Medical Center in St. Louis City. He retired in the mid-nineties.
Jimmy adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. But the greatest love of Jimmy’s life was the game of golf. He was offered an opportunity to go to P.G.A. school but turned it down to attend college, a decision he always regretted. According to his lifelong friend and fellow golfer, Don Davis, Jimmy “had the most beautiful swing I’ve ever seen”.
If God is truly good, Jimmy is golfing his heart out in Heaven.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home
