Lorena S. Young (nee Smith), 90, passed away at home on March 12, 2025, two days before her 91st birthday. Lorena was a native of Tampa, Florida, and resided in Maryland Heights, Missouri. She graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, where she was active in Beta Sigma Phi even during her later years. She also graduated from the University of Missouri-St Louis with a Masters Degree in Counseling.
Lorena worked as a Music Teacher for many years, as well as for the St. Louis County Library. She was an active member of the Dorsett Village Church and Remix Church in Maryland Heights for 45 years. She was organist and pianist at several churches for most of her adult life, both in Tampa and St. Louis.
Lorena is preceded in death by her parents, Leland Dixon Smith and Gladys Corine Smith (nee Hardy). She is survived by her devoted husband, Earle R. Young, two daughters, Kay (Dave) Truffelli, Karen (Andy) Wurm, and two step-sons, Richard (Stacy) Young, and Jeff (Michelle) Young. Lorena also had 10 cherished grandchildren, Francesca Monroe, Ryan Truffelli, Julia Hulsey, Austin Truffelli, Holly Wurm, Parker Young, Garrett Young, Shelby Young, Kacy Young (deceased), and Kelsi Young. She had 13 great-children and three more due this year.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 3/18/25 at 5:00 p.m. at Alexander White Mullen Funeral Home in St. Ann, Missouri. Visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m. Interment on Wednesday, 3/19/25 at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in St. Ann.
