Marcy Dee Shaw passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on January 3, 1954, to Howard Kohn and Sylvia Cohen, Marcy lived a rich, vibrant life defined by her deep love for family, her sense of adventure, and her unwavering faith.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brother Russell Kohn, and her cherished son Donne Shaw. Marcy is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Douglas McClain Shaw, her son Israel Shaw and his wife Rachelle, her daughter Heather Shaw Vines, and her daughter-in-law Kuryn Kroutil. She was a proud and loving “Bubbi” to her grandchildren Charis, Naomi, Rebekah, James Douglas (JD), and Michaela.
Marcy’s work life was as diverse and passionate as her personality. She held many roles throughout her career — from waitress at Caesar’s Palace to administrative assistant at Norwalk Hospital, Ochsner Hospital, and American Longwall. In her later years, she served as a missionary with the International Mission Board, ministering primarily in Poland and the United Kingdom to Eastern European communities. Her heart for people and her deep faith guided her work and touched countless lives.
Marcy was known for her quick wit, love of games, and deep intellect. She was a fierce card player—some would say a true card shark—and had a deep love for books, especially fantasy, science fiction, historical mysteries, and crime novels. A lover of beauty and culture, she was an enthusiastic collector of Polish pottery and an avid traveler, with Greece being one of her favorite destinations shared with her beloved Doug.
Her kitchen, fondly named Bubbi’s Kitchen, was filled with the sounds and smells of her favorite dishes, which she loved to cook for her family. She found joy in watching her family garden, sharing stories around the table, and spending meaningful time with those she loved most.
Marcy and Doug’s love story spanned decades and continents. So strong was their bond that they exchanged vows three times, yet always honored July 14, 1970, as the true beginning of their journey together. Their 55 years of marriage were a testament to enduring love, partnership, and shared purpose.
Marcy’s life was full—of laughter, service, compassion, and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and fierce love that will live on in all who were privileged to know her.
