Born on July 13, 1932, Marilyn was the beloved daughter of Patrick and Hazel Harrington of Kirkwood, Missouri. A member of the Kirkwood High School Class of 1950, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Economics and Business from Grinnell College in 1954, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Marilyn built a distinguished career in law, education, and finance, known for her intellect, precision, and steadfast integrity. Her professional career included positions as Corporate Secretary at South Ranch Oil Company and Bitting & Company, and as Administrative Assistant at Washington University in St. Louis, where she supported the Social Science Institute and the Vice Chancellor for Research. She later worked for many years at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (then Bryan Cave McPheeters & McRoberts) as a Legal Assistant in the litigation department, where she assisted attorneys in data collection, trial preparation, and case management. Her colleagues and friends admired her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail.
An active member of her community, Marilyn was involved in the American Chamber Chorale and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter KR, in Ballwin, Missouri. She was also a longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Kirkwood, where she and her mother shared deep faith and fellowship.
In her later years, Marilyn made her home in Webster Groves at the Laclede Groves Senior Living Community, where she found joy in visits from friends, family, and visiting pets. She will be remembered for her quiet wit, warmth, and gentle strength.
She was a devoted sister of Patricia Hollander (née Harrington) and sister-in-law of Edwin Hollander. She was a cherished aunt to Peter, Kimberly, Rachel, Sean, Beatrice, and William, and to a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who adored her.
Her life was one of grace, humility, and enduring love — a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
