September 21, 1933 – September 30, 2025
Martin “Marty” Edward Wuenscher passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, intellect, and heartfelt connection. Born to Clara (Earnie) and Adolph Wuenscher, Marty grew up with a deep sense of duty, curiosity, and compassion that shaped every chapter of his life.
He served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a radarman aboard two destroyers—the USS Gyatt and USS Furse—as part of the Atlantic Fleet. His time at sea reflected the discipline and steadiness that would define him throughout his life.
After his military service, Marty pursued academic excellence, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Missouri School of Mines (Rolla, MO) and later a master’s degree in Government Science from SIUE. He applied his analytical mind in service to the U.S. Army as an Operations Research Analyst, where he played a vital role in supporting the production of the Chinook CH-47 helicopter—an enduring contribution to national defense. After retirement, Marty served as a subcontractor at Dynamics Research Corporation and as a substitute teacher in the Pattonville School District, sharing his knowledge and experience with a new generation.
Marty was a man of kindness and compassion. He had a gift for conversation and a genuine love for meeting people—whether chatting with neighbors, striking up conversations with strangers, or sharing stories with family. He found joy in simple pleasures: bowling with friends and family, tending to his garden, and fishing the Gasconade River with loved ones at Nagogami Lodge—a cherished family retreat, where generations gathered to laugh, connect, and cast lines into the water.
Faith was a cornerstone of Marty’s life. As a devoted Lutheran, he served as an elder at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland, Missouri, where he was a steadfast presence and source of encouragement to his congregation.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Mickey) of 61 years; his son, Eric; his daughter, Karen (Jeffrey) Knoppe; and his cherished granddaughter, Morgan (Samuel) Fischer. Marty also leaves behind his brothers, David and William, and joins in rest his parents, and siblings Jeanette, Esther Glover, and Adolph Jr.
Marty will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the way he lived—with humility, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, his church, and all who had the privilege to know him.
