

Rich was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Lemmie and Myrtle M. Wheeler, on November 6, 1946. He is survived by his brothers; Robert W. (Diane) Wheeler, and Charles T. (Karen) Wheeler, along with a sister, Carolyn.
After graduating William Cullen McBride High School and spending time at Florissant Valley Community College, Rich began working at General Motors Company. Then on April 11, 1966, he made the decision to enlist in the United States Army. He joined the Second Brigade of the 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division serving in Vietnam from December 1967 to December 1968. During his time in the service of our country he earned multiple honors, which included the following:
• National Defense Service Medal
• Vietnam Campaign Medal
• Army Commendation Medal with Device for exceptionally meritorious achievement in ground
operation in the Republic of Vietnam (1968)
• Vietnam Service Medal
• Parachutist Badge
• Combat Infantryman Badge
• Battlefield promotion to Sergeant
After being honorably discharged from the United States Army in December of 1968, Rich returned to his job at General Motors. He remained a loyal employee and retired after more than 30 years with the company.
Rich will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, Eric Billington, Christopher Wheeler, John and Jennifer Krueger, Ruben and Angela Guzman, Matthew and Grace Wheeler, Emily Wheeler and Ryan Wheeler. His great nephews, Zakkary and Ashley Wheeler, Andres Guzman, Diego Guzman and a great-great nephew, Colten Wheeler.
Our family will miss Rich and we are sad that he will not be here to meet his future nieces & nephews. A small private service will be held in his honor.
