Robert Eugene “Bob” Hagaman was called to his heavenly home in the early morning of Wednesday, November 5, 2025 with a beautiful supermoon lighting his way. Bob was born December 26,1933 to Leonard and Mary Hagaman in Canton, Illinois. He was the second of seven children. He grew up in Fairview, Illinois and later lived in Peoria and Belleville, Illinois, then moved to Berkeley and Calverton Park, Missouri. He retired to Homosassa and Crystal River, Florida, relocating to Union, Missouri in August 2025 to be nearer to family.
Children Carolyn and Valerie were born of his marriage to Fern Wilson and children Roberta, Robert “Bobby” and Juanita from his marriage to Rose Russell. He was blessed with nearly fifty grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren.
On June 23, 1972 Bob married Nancy Nichols and over the next 53 years they established a home that was the hub of family get-togethers while in Missouri. After retiring to Florida to play out his life in “paradise” as he described it,they were a cherished destination for the grands who got to visit their house (with a pool!). Bob and Nancy traveled extensively, journeying to all fifty states and enjoying more than twenty cruises.
Bob served 2 years in the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland just missing Korea. He then attended Bradley University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Caterpillar in Peoria while in school, moving on to Emerson Electric and McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, he was a business owner operating a Zephyr gas station in Belleville and then ASCO Rebuilders in Jennings, Missouri.
In Florida he joined the Toastmasters, the Parliamentarians, two Republican clubs, a stage company and a square dance club. He learned to make better speeches and to properly moderate a meeting and got a chance to do some acting which was something he always wanted to try. He and Nancy enjoyed square dancing and were active with their local republican clubs, working for local elections and campaign activities, as well as attending two National Republican Conventions.
Bob was patriotic. He loved his country and felt he could make a difference. He served as mayor of Calverton Park, Missouri for many years and he ran for State representative for District 76 in 1998. He walked miles and knocked on doors, losing twenty pounds that summer. The primary resulted in a tie, and he had to do it all over again, eventually losing by only a small margin. He routinely submitted editorial opinion pieces to the local newspapers and on his Facebook page.
Bob was a Christian who truly lived his faith. He was a devoted and loving servant of the Lord leaning on his faith in all aspects of his life. Bob and Nancy were members at First Baptist Church of Crystal River where they were active in numerous ministries, including the Singing Christmas Tree, Christmas and Easter pageants, preparing and serving Wednesday night suppers and the community Thanksgiving dinners and working with the children in AWANAS for more than two decades. Bob also taught Sunday School, served as a deacon and usher and assisted the Shoebox ministry. Upon returning to Missouri this summer, Bob immediately joined the fellowship at FBC Union.
Bob was a loving husband and father, a good listener, encourager and an inspiration to family and friends who looked to him for wisdom and guidance.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister Verna Lawrence, brothers William and James Hagaman, daughter Juanita Slover, son Robert Keith Hagaman and son-in-law Dave Throgmorton.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Hagaman, his daughters Carolyn Reppy, Valerie Throgmorton and Roberta Lancey, sisters Margaret Morey and Ruth Ann Doubet, brother Roger Hagaman, grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren.
Bob loved life and lived it to the fullest. His motto, from a book he frequently read to Carolyn (The Little Engine That Could) was I think I can, I think I can, I did it!
