Sandra Jean Hunter (nee Dornan), age 84, a proud lifelong resident of Ferguson, passed away peacefully in her beloved home on June 28, 2025, while being surrounded by her devoted daughter & son-in-law and her lovingly cultivated garden.
Sandy lost her cherished husband, Harvey Jay Hunter, in 2007. She is survived by her son Martin White (Tricia) and her daughter Rebecca Hunter (Paul Bechtel); grandchildren Allison Hoffner (Kyle), Curtis White (Becca) & Molly White (James McLellan); great-grandchildren Charlette Hoffner, Sophie Hoffner & George McLellan along with a host of dear friends, many of 75 years or more.
Sandy’s family lived in Ferguson for seven generations and she revered her deep roots in her community so much. She was involved in many Ferguson activities and organizations over the years, most recently the Ferguson Historical Society and the creation of the Ferguson History House. She took great pride in hand-selecting every plant & tree in her own home garden & also greatly enjoyed her years of tending community gardens in downtown Ferguson with a local gardening group. She had so many wonderful times volunteering & worshiping at Ferguson United Methodist Church & St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Florissant. Sandy was a voracious reader, absorbing everything from her daily St. Louis Post-Dispatch to many novels, some with her book club she so enjoyed. Sandy was a fast friend to so many & a lifelong friend to a very lucky group whom she treasured beyond measure.
