Shawn Devin Smith

Born and raised in Hazelwood, Missouri, Shawn graduated from Hazelwood High School West before earning his bachelor’s degree in economics from Mizzou where he was a member of PI Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He later received his MBA from Washington University. He began his professional life in the trucking industry, but his true calling was in finance. In 2009, he started his own agency, SD Smith Financial, where he found great success by building strong personal relationships with his clients.

While Shawn had a serious demeanor, those who knew him well understood his kind heart and deep loyalty. He was a man of passion, with a lifelong love for dogs and a special fondness for any beach he visited. Yet, his greatest joy and most cherished hobby was his daughter, Cloe. He was a dedicated father who found immense pride and happiness in her life.

Shawn is survived by his beloved daughter, Cloe Smith; his fiancé, Jennifer Bruer; brother, Dwane Smith, nephew Luke Smith, his uncle, Wallace Lucas, cousin Dianna Lucas and niece Madeleine Lucas Fleming. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary; his father, Danford and his brother, Craig.

Visitation will be held at The Gathering Church, 101 N Bemiston Ave, Clayton, MO, on Friday, October 10, 2025, with visitation from 9:00 am – 10:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held at the church after the service until 1:30 pm.

The burial will be a private service for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation to The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater St. Louis.
