William Spainhoward worked hard his whole life and spent his remaining years perfecting the art of the deal. Not in the stock market, not in real estate, but in the areas of garage sales, estate sales and flea markets. Other people's castoff possesions were his treasures, especially if he could make a profit on the resale. His children say he bragged about turning a piece for profit, and if he lost money on a deal he never said so. He dealt in everything from clocks to cactus, especially clocks.
Mr. Spainhoward was described by his children as a hard worker who never complained. He was a career military man, enlisting in the U.S Army during the Korean War. In his 20th year of service he was called to serve in Vietnam. He returned to civilian life and worked as engineer for the Electo Motive Diesel Company in St. Louis.
Mr. Spainhoward passed away surrounded by his family on February 18, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans' Home in North St. Louis County. He was preceded in death by his wife Melitta (Steinbichler) Spainhoward. He is survived by children John (Sue) Spainhoward and Dagmar (Walter) Schmitt. Grandchildren Serge Spainhoward, Shawn Spainhoward, Sherry Schmitt and Lora Monroe; great-grandchildren Tori, Cierra and Meeka Spainhoward and Peyton and Taylor Monroe, and a brother John "Jack" Spainhoward.
