HOUSTON, Zola Marie (nee Hulsey), 94, beloved wife of the late James Houston; loving mother of Carol (Archie) Smith, Janice Houston, and Norm Houston; dear sister of the late Lester Hulsey and Pauline Hulsey
Zola was born and raised in the small town of Christopher, IL was a pioneer of her time. First to join "The Waves" (Navy) in WWII from her hometown. She was a strong, independent woman who deeply loved the Lord and her family. The daughter of a coal miner and a seamstress, she went through the Great Depression and carried that "survivor" mentality throughout her life. On the day she went to be with the Lord, God sent one of his angels as her nurse to help usher her into heaven. His name was Emmanuel which means "God is with us".
