Born on November 13, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph Radzwion Sr. and Leontine (Claeys) Radzwion, Al graduated from Edwin C. Denby High School. He began military service in the U. S. Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the infantry and honed his skills on the M-1 carbine, achieving qualification as a sharpshooter. Following basic training, he began his working life at the Chrysler Corporation missile plant in Sterling Heights. Al then began working as a helper on a Twin Pines Farm Dairy route and eventually acquired his own Twin Pines milk route, serving customers in the area surrounding Belle Isle in Detroit. In 1969, he started what became a 30-year career with United Parcel Service as a package car driver, a position he held until retirement in 1999. When Al was asked why he always remained a package car driver, he remarked that it was because he enjoyed engaging with and serving his customers on a daily basis.
Al married Jeanette Berant on September 10, 1960, and they built a long life together until Jeanette’s death in 2014. He was a loving father to Terrence Radzwion, Michele DeVoogd and Lisa LaGore, and an involved grandfather to Rebecca LaGore, Nicole LaGore, Alina DeVoogd, Renee DeVoogd, Elliott Kade (fiancee Kelsey Reed) Radzwion, Andrew (Shannon) Goldstrich, and Jenna (Avelene) Goldstrich. He was also great-grandfather to Nathaniel Goldstrich and Liana Goldstrich. Al was a dear brother to Rita Marfuta, Thomas (Marsha) Radzwion, and Annette Rocheleau, and a cherished brother-in-law to Patricia Radzwion, Marie Radzwion, Diane Kurzava, Beverly Raub, and James Berant. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanette Radzwion, daughter Michele DeVoogd, brothers Raymond and Joseph Radzwion, sister Joyce Pietrangelo. brothers-in-law Al Marfuta, Al Pietrangelo, Chuck Rocheleau and Thomas Lunter, and sister-in-law Sally Lunter
In his leisure time, Al took joy in spending time in nature, chasing the elusive whitetail every November in the great state of Michigan, occasionally extracting fish from local lakes and rivers, and following a small white ball over grassy fields in a motorized cart and striking it with metal objects. He passionately loved all types of music, even country AND western, and amassed a huge collection of record albums, cassettes, and compact discs. Al enjoyed regularly playing trivia at a variety of local saloons. He was a voracious fixer and tinkerer, able to work in wood, metal, and plastic to engineer solutions to mechanical problems no one knew existed. What many people refer to as “MacGyvering”, Al’s children refer to as “doing an Alvin” - using unconventional methods and materials to achieve a repair or creation. He truly enjoyed people and never met anyone who didn’t become a friend.
Terry and Lisa will share memories of Al’s long life with friends and family on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 3:00 -8:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Avenue, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081.
Al will lie in state on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 9:30 am until time of Funeral Mass at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 21440 Universal Avenue, Eastpointe, Michigan 48021.
If desired, the family suggests that memorial donations in lieu of flowers be given to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Alvin and Jeanette will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, at a later date.
