Betty Ann (Smith) Hugaert, born April 18, 1929, went home to eternal life on April 24, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Beloved wife of the late Gilbert F. Hugaert, Cherished mother of Nancy Diane Focht and Susan Carol, Adored grandmother of Ryan (Fiancée Heather Bachorski), Douglas Focht and Chaz Gallagher and Loving Great Grandmother to Kara Noyes, Blake Poore, Ella Focht and Avery Focht. Born in Detroit and a lifelong resident of St. Clair Shores, Betty had a most fascinating life.
At age three years old, she began a singing career at the Broadway Capital Theatre (now known as The Michigan Opera House) and sang on Radio Schoolhouse every Sunday until the age of 17. She had the honor of singing with both Harry James and Tommy Dorsey's bands, Johnny Desmond and graced many local area magazine covers as the Marden Watch Girl. In the early 1960's, she took a temp secretarial position at the newly built Macomb Mall and was promoted to Mall Manager by Jerry Shostak within 2 months; most likely a first for a woman of that era!
She was devoted to her family, loved anything musical and brought joy and grace to all that knew her. Betty was content and loved being at home with her dog, Jada. Right until the end, if asked, she would sing you a song! She is most likely putting a band together in Heaven right now. She will be greatly missed and remembered always!
Arrangements entrusted to Kaul Funeral Home.
