At the age of 15 Camilla left home to join the nuns at "The Convent" at St. Paul on the Lake. Camilla later in life met the love of her life Edwin Campau. Once married they would move to Grosse Pointe Farms, living next to her mother-in-law. Some time had passed and together they would welcome their son Donald E. Campau into their life.
Camilla's family during this time owned all the land in St. Clair Shores, and it was known as Chapoton Woods. During the Great Depression it was said that the family allowed the "worthless" land to revert back to the state.
Camilla was in retail sales and enjoyed reading, gardening and sewing.
Camilla was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Vincent J. Schmidt, Cyril A. Schmidt, Bernadette Harrandine, Rosamond Robinson, Gerald M. Schmidt and Martin F. Schmidt. She will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews Suzanne LeFevre, Paul Schmidt, Joseph Nephew, Mary Campau, Patricia Peary, Sue (Anthony) Malkowski, and Diane Enna. Camilla will be missed by all those who knew her and all the lives she touched along the way.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Beechwood Manor for the wonderful, loving care for almost ten years. They not only cared for her needs but made her feel like one of the family; and that is part of the spirit at Beechwood. A special thanks to Hillary who always went above and beyond to help the whole family whenever needed.
A memorial service will be scheduled at the end of July to celebrate Camilla's life at Beechwood Manor. Please check back for updates.
Arrangements entrusted to Kaul Funeral Home St. Clair Shores Chapel.
